SEC Chair Paul Atkins Backs Innovation Exemption and Self-Custody Rights at DeFi Roundtable

DeFiance Daily – In remarks delivered at the Crypto Task Force Roundtable on June 9, SEC Chairman Paul S. Atkins signaled a major shift in regulatory tone, endorsing DeFi as aligned with core American values of liberty, innovation, and private property. Atkins called for formal rulemaking to protect validator activity, self-custody rights, and open-source software development, while proposing a new “innovation exemption” to accelerate compliant on-chain product launches.
